What Is Your Attachment Blueprint in Relationships?
Earlier this week I wrote about different attachment styles. While I don’t always rely on self-reporting quizzes, sometimes it’s fun to use. Here is a quiz to help you find out your attachment style.
Instructions:
Read each statement and choose the answer that best describes how you typically feel or behave in romantic relationships.
Scale:
1 – Strongly Disagree
2 – Disagree
3 – Neutral
4 – Agree
5 – Strongly Agree

Emotional Closeness
- I feel comfortable depending on a romantic partner.
- I worry that the people I care about will lose interest in me.
- I sometimes feel overwhelmed when a partner wants too much emotional closeness.
- I enjoy sharing my thoughts and feelings with someone I’m dating.
Communication & Conflict
- When conflict happens, I prefer to talk through it rather than avoid it.
- When someone pulls away emotionally, I feel anxious and try to reconnect quickly.
- When relationships become emotionally intense, I sometimes need space.
- I find it difficult to talk about vulnerable feelings.
Reactions to Distance
- If someone takes longer than usual to respond to a message, I may worry something is wrong.
- I value independence and sometimes prefer handling things on my own.
- I feel secure even when my partner and I spend time apart.
- When someone gets too emotionally close, I sometimes pull away.
Relationship Patterns
- I tend to overthink interactions with people I’m dating.
- I feel comfortable asking for what I need in a relationship.
- I sometimes lose interest when someone becomes very emotionally available.

Emotional Safety
- I feel safe being emotionally open with a partner.
- I worry about being rejected or abandoned in relationships.
- I sometimes keep emotional distance to avoid getting hurt.
- I generally trust that relationships will work out if both people are invested.
Scoring Guide
You can categorize responses into four attachment styles.
Secure Attachment
Higher scores on questions:
1, 4, 5, 11, 14, 17, 20
Traits:
- comfortable with intimacy
- healthy independence
- open communication
- emotional stability in relationships
Anxious Attachment
Higher scores on questions:
2, 6, 9, 13, 16, 18
Traits:
- fear of abandonment
- hyper-awareness of relationship shifts
- desire for reassurance
- emotional intensity
Avoidant Attachment
Higher scores on questions:
3, 7, 10, 12, 15, 19
Traits:
- discomfort with emotional closeness
- strong independence
- tendency to withdraw during emotional moments
Results Descriptions (Short Versions)
Secure Attachment
You tend to feel comfortable with both closeness and independence in relationships. Communication and emotional connection feel natural to you.
Anxious Attachment
You deeply value connection but may sometimes worry about losing it. Relationships can bring strong emotions and a desire for reassurance.
Avoidant Attachment
You tend to value independence and emotional self-sufficiency. While connection is important, too much closeness can sometimes feel overwhelming.
Understanding your attachment style can be a powerful first step in recognizing patterns in your dating life.
